Start: Open Netscape 4.x
1. To configure Navigator for e-mail access, you will want to be within the browser and click on
Options, then Mail and News Preferences.
2. Click on the Appearance tab. The only change that you need to make
here is under Pane Layout. Select Split Horizontal for
Mail. Click on the Composition tab.
3. You should not need to make any changes to this screen. Please note that you do not
want to fill anything in under "By default, email a copy of outgoing messages to:".
Leave both Mail and News blank. Make sure that "Automatically
quote original message when replying" is checked. Click on the Servers tab.
4. Fill in the following information under Mail:
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.nscnet.net
- Outgoing Mail (SMPT) Server: mail.nscnet.net
- Outgoing Mail Server User Name: (Your nscnet.net username - 1st part of your e-mail address
before the "@" example johndoe@nscnet.net you would put just johndoe)
- Mail Directory: should already be filled in
- Maximum Message Size: mark None (UNLESS you have a large message that you
wish to avoid downloading for now... then you want to mark Size and specify 800 KB, or so.)
- Check for Mail: mark Every 30 minutes (you can specify a different amount of time)
5. Click on the Identity tab. There are only a few fields that need to be filled in here.
- Your Name: (fill in your name as you wish it to appear on outgoing messages example John Doe)
- Your Email: username@nscnet.net (your nscnet.net e-mail address)
- Reply-to Address: (fill this in ONLY if you want your mail to be sent to a different e-mail address)
- Your Organization: (can be left blank)
- Signature File: (this also can be left blank)
6. Click on the Organization tab. Make sure you have Remember Mail Password
checked. The rest is personal preference. Click OK.
